BODHIDHARMA

Bodhidharma was a Buddhist monk who lived during the 5th/6th century and is traditionally credited as the leading patriarch and transmitter of Zen (Chinese: Chán, Sanskrit: Dhyāna) to China. He was the third son of a Tamil king of the Pallava Dynasty. According to Chinese legend, he also began the physical training of the Shaolin monks that led to the creation of Shaolinquan. However, martial arts historians have shown this legend stems from a 17th century qigong manual known as the Yijin Jing.

Little contemporary biographical information on Bodhidharma is extant, and subsequent accounts became layered with legend, but some accounts state that he was from a Brahmin family in southern India and possibly of royal lineage. However Broughton (1999:2) notes that Bodhidharma's royal pedigree implies that he was of the Kshatriya warrior caste. Mahajan (1972:705–707) argued that the Pallava dynasty was a Tamilian dynasty and Zvelebil (1987) proposed that Bodhidharma was born a prince of the Pallava dynasty in their capital of Kanchipuram Scholars have concluded his place of birth to be Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, India.
After becoming a Buddhist monk, Bodhidharma traveled to China. The accounts differ on the date of his arrival, with one early account claiming that he arrived during the Liú Sòng Dynasty (420–479) and later accounts dating his arrival to the Liáng Dynasty (502–557). Bodhidharma was primarily active in the lands of the Northern Wèi Dynasty (386–534). Modern scholarship dates him to about the early 5th century.
Throughout Buddhist art, Bodhidharma is depicted as a rather ill-tempered, profusely bearded and wide-eyed barbarian. He is described as "The Blue-Eyed Barbarian" in Chinese texts.

The Anthology of the Patriarchal Hall (952) identifies Bodhidharma as the 28th Patriarch of Buddhism in an uninterrupted line that extends all the way back to the Buddha himself. D.T. Suzuki contends that Chán's growth in popularity during the 7th and 8th centuries attracted criticism that it had "no authorized records of its direct transmission from the founder of Buddhism" and that Chán historians made Bodhidharma the 28th patriarch of Buddhism in response to such attacks.

VOLVO THE MOST SAFEST CARS IN THE GLOBE

Laser Assisted Automatic Braking - City Safety

The City Safety comes as a world-first standard feature from Volvo. At speeds of up to 50 kmph, laser beams mounted at the top of the windscreen detect the vehicle up to 6 m in front of the XC60 and also  detect whether it’s moving. Should you take your eyes off a potential shunt, the City Safety feature takes action. Between 0-15 kmph, the XC60 will stop itself to avoid a collision. And between 15-50 kmph, the XC60 will automatically reduce its speed and substantially reduce the impact. Since 75% of the world’s collisions occur at speeds less than 30 kmph, the City Safety feature is Volvo’s way of making urban  driving a safer, more enjoyable experience.

Haldex All Wheel Drive with Instant Traction

The Haldex All Wheel Drive is an electronically controlled system that distributes engine power between the front and rear wheels quickly and automatically, depending on which wheel pair (front or rear wheels) has the best grip at that moment. The system helps enhance stability and reduces under/over steering and contributes to increased driver control and a comfortable ride. The system is equipped with Pre-tensioners that improve take-off speed and deliver higher traction on slippery surfaces.

Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC)

At the core of DSTC, sensors register the SUV's direction and roll rate. The system compares this with steering wheel movements as well as the actual rotation of the SUV's wheels. DSTC is able to detect a potential skid and help counteract this by reducing the engine's power output or braking on one or more wheels.

Hill Descent Control System (HDC)

When driving down inclines, press a button and the XC60 will control its speed. Both in forward and reverse motion. The technologically unbeatable Hill Descent System makes it possible for the driver to focus completely on the steering. If the driver intervenes via brake or accelerator the HDC automatically disengages itself. This system works even at 45° inclines.

Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept (Four-C)

The Four-C active chassis is a technology that monitors the car, road and driver, 500 times per second, simultaneously adjusting each shock absorber to maintain optimal handling. At the heart of Four-C is Volvo’s semi-active suspension with continuously controlled Monroe-Öhlins shock absorbers. Furthermore, Four-C interacts with the DSTC system, engine, brakes and steering to promote your chosen handling style. There are three distinctive driving modes:

Comfort: This chassis mode isolates the car’s occupants from irregularities on the road surface. This setting prioritises flexible dampening for smooth and gentle body movement and exceptional comfort. It’s ideal for slippery or uneven roads.

Sport: For a sportier experience, this setting prioritises slightly stiffer dampening and acts faster. This results in more decisive body movement, precise handling and good ride comfort. Perfect for active driving.

Advanced: This is the high performance mode. This setting stiffens the dampeners for maximum road contact directly communicating the road surface to the driver. Prioritising immediate feedback rather than comfort, the advanced setting increases the range of driving dynamics

Turn-with-Steering Lights - Active Bending Lights (ABL)

Compared to conventional halogen headlamps, Active Bending headlights with Dual Xenon Technology expand your vision range by about 230%, which helps you gain 45 metres 0 more for braking. And motorised lamps that turn up to 15 in either direction, give a 90% boost to your vision round bends at night.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Distance Alert

Helping the driver to keep a safe distance from vehicles in front at speeds over 30 kmph, ACC aids a more relaxed driving experience. When the radar sensor detects a slower vehicle in front, the speed automatically adapts to that vehicle.

Driver Alert Control (DAC)

Driver Alert Control is a unique technology that can help alert a distracted driver at speeds over 65 kmph. Using signals from a digital camera to monitor the road ahead, DAC can compare erratic behaviour to your normal driving. If DAC detects any such anomaly it signals you immediately with an audible warning.

Collision Warning with Auto Brake (CWAB)

Designed for highway driving, it can warn you if you're too close to a vehicle in front and can activate the brakes to help mitigate the impact. When Collision Warning senses that a collision is likely, it will alert you to act. CWAB supports driverinitiated braking by pre-charging the brakes to quickly prepare for panic braking.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

At speeds over 65 kmph, Lane Departure Warning can prevent a vehicle from drifting off the road due to distractions. This function uses the digital camera to register the lane
markings and helps monitor the car's position on the road.

Side Impact Protection System (SIPS)

In a side impact, Volvo's unique Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) helps distribute the crash forces across the car's body, away from the occupants. The dual-chamber side airbags in the front seats help protect the chest and hip, while the Inflatable Curtain (IC) helps protect the heads of both front and rear outboard occupants. It also stays inflated for some seconds to provide prolonged protection for subsequent impacts.

Rear Impact

In a rear impact the rear deformation zones will help absorb crash energy. The fuel tank is designed to remain well protected in front of the rear axle. The head restraints help protect the neck and spine, and Volvo’s unique Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) cradles the front seat occupants in a controlled manner to help prevent whiplash injuries.

In a Frontal Collision

The patended frontal structure will yield to help absorb and disperse crash energy. The  compact powertrain is designed to help optimise deformation. Inside the car, safety belts interact with the collapsible steering column and dual-stage airbags to help keep the occupants out of harm's way.

Restraint Technologies

In a collision, Volvo's restraint technologies interact to help reduce the impact. The safety belts with pre-tensioners activate within a thousandth of a second in the event of a collision and tighten the belt to help keep the occupants securely restrained. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled manner. Helping to optimize protection, the dual-stage airbags adapt the level of inflation depending on the force of the collision. The driver's airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column.

Dual-chamber side airbags

Dual-chamber side airbags in the front seats help reduce the risk of serious injuries in a side collision. Two separate chambers are inflated at different pressures to help optimise protection, of the chest and hip, of the front seat occupants.
