VOLVO THE MOST SAFEST CARS IN THE GLOBE

Laser Assisted Automatic Braking - City Safety

The City Safety comes as a world-first standard feature from Volvo. At speeds of up to 50 kmph, laser beams mounted at the top of the windscreen detect the vehicle up to 6 m in front of the XC60 and also  detect whether it’s moving. Should you take your eyes off a potential shunt, the City Safety feature takes action. Between 0-15 kmph, the XC60 will stop itself to avoid a collision. And between 15-50 kmph, the XC60 will automatically reduce its speed and substantially reduce the impact. Since 75% of the world’s collisions occur at speeds less than 30 kmph, the City Safety feature is Volvo’s way of making urban  driving a safer, more enjoyable experience.

Haldex All Wheel Drive with Instant Traction

The Haldex All Wheel Drive is an electronically controlled system that distributes engine power between the front and rear wheels quickly and automatically, depending on which wheel pair (front or rear wheels) has the best grip at that moment. The system helps enhance stability and reduces under/over steering and contributes to increased driver control and a comfortable ride. The system is equipped with Pre-tensioners that improve take-off speed and deliver higher traction on slippery surfaces.

Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC)

At the core of DSTC, sensors register the SUV's direction and roll rate. The system compares this with steering wheel movements as well as the actual rotation of the SUV's wheels. DSTC is able to detect a potential skid and help counteract this by reducing the engine's power output or braking on one or more wheels.

Hill Descent Control System (HDC)

When driving down inclines, press a button and the XC60 will control its speed. Both in forward and reverse motion. The technologically unbeatable Hill Descent System makes it possible for the driver to focus completely on the steering. If the driver intervenes via brake or accelerator the HDC automatically disengages itself. This system works even at 45° inclines.

Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept (Four-C)

The Four-C active chassis is a technology that monitors the car, road and driver, 500 times per second, simultaneously adjusting each shock absorber to maintain optimal handling. At the heart of Four-C is Volvo’s semi-active suspension with continuously controlled Monroe-Öhlins shock absorbers. Furthermore, Four-C interacts with the DSTC system, engine, brakes and steering to promote your chosen handling style. There are three distinctive driving modes:

Comfort: This chassis mode isolates the car’s occupants from irregularities on the road surface. This setting prioritises flexible dampening for smooth and gentle body movement and exceptional comfort. It’s ideal for slippery or uneven roads.

Sport: For a sportier experience, this setting prioritises slightly stiffer dampening and acts faster. This results in more decisive body movement, precise handling and good ride comfort. Perfect for active driving.

Advanced: This is the high performance mode. This setting stiffens the dampeners for maximum road contact directly communicating the road surface to the driver. Prioritising immediate feedback rather than comfort, the advanced setting increases the range of driving dynamics

Turn-with-Steering Lights - Active Bending Lights (ABL)

Compared to conventional halogen headlamps, Active Bending headlights with Dual Xenon Technology expand your vision range by about 230%, which helps you gain 45 metres 0 more for braking. And motorised lamps that turn up to 15 in either direction, give a 90% boost to your vision round bends at night.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Distance Alert

Helping the driver to keep a safe distance from vehicles in front at speeds over 30 kmph, ACC aids a more relaxed driving experience. When the radar sensor detects a slower vehicle in front, the speed automatically adapts to that vehicle.

Driver Alert Control (DAC)

Driver Alert Control is a unique technology that can help alert a distracted driver at speeds over 65 kmph. Using signals from a digital camera to monitor the road ahead, DAC can compare erratic behaviour to your normal driving. If DAC detects any such anomaly it signals you immediately with an audible warning.

Collision Warning with Auto Brake (CWAB)

Designed for highway driving, it can warn you if you're too close to a vehicle in front and can activate the brakes to help mitigate the impact. When Collision Warning senses that a collision is likely, it will alert you to act. CWAB supports driverinitiated braking by pre-charging the brakes to quickly prepare for panic braking.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

At speeds over 65 kmph, Lane Departure Warning can prevent a vehicle from drifting off the road due to distractions. This function uses the digital camera to register the lane
markings and helps monitor the car's position on the road.

Side Impact Protection System (SIPS)

In a side impact, Volvo's unique Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) helps distribute the crash forces across the car's body, away from the occupants. The dual-chamber side airbags in the front seats help protect the chest and hip, while the Inflatable Curtain (IC) helps protect the heads of both front and rear outboard occupants. It also stays inflated for some seconds to provide prolonged protection for subsequent impacts.

Rear Impact

In a rear impact the rear deformation zones will help absorb crash energy. The fuel tank is designed to remain well protected in front of the rear axle. The head restraints help protect the neck and spine, and Volvo’s unique Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) cradles the front seat occupants in a controlled manner to help prevent whiplash injuries.

In a Frontal Collision

The patended frontal structure will yield to help absorb and disperse crash energy. The  compact powertrain is designed to help optimise deformation. Inside the car, safety belts interact with the collapsible steering column and dual-stage airbags to help keep the occupants out of harm's way.

Restraint Technologies

In a collision, Volvo's restraint technologies interact to help reduce the impact. The safety belts with pre-tensioners activate within a thousandth of a second in the event of a collision and tighten the belt to help keep the occupants securely restrained. The front seat safety belts then release a little so that the driver and passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled manner. Helping to optimize protection, the dual-stage airbags adapt the level of inflation depending on the force of the collision. The driver's airbag also interacts with the deformation of the collapsible steering column.

Dual-chamber side airbags

Dual-chamber side airbags in the front seats help reduce the risk of serious injuries in a side collision. Two separate chambers are inflated at different pressures to help optimise protection, of the chest and hip, of the front seat occupants.

16.Torque On Demand - Transfer Case

Torque On Demand - Transfer Case "The Torque On Demand – All Wheel Drive system continuously takes the following inputs and the ECU of TOD decides the Torque distribution 1. Front Speed 2. Rear Speed 3. Throttle Position 4. ABS Signal 5. Mode Switch 4x2 The Torque is reduced where it’s slipping or wasted and provided the extra torque to the other side. The TOD also prevents your car from skidding, while your on the normal roads reduces the torque to the slipping wheel and ensures the stability. Unlike the Traditional 4x4s that need the drivers intervention, the TOD does it all for you.

Ride & Handling

17.Front and Rear Suspension

The perfectly balanced suspension in Aria not only assures you a comfortable ride but also gives you efficient control and stability on or off the road. Aria is equipped with an independent double wish bone suspension in the front and 5-link suspension at the back. The suspension has been designed and set-up to provide an optimal balance between a comfortable on-road ride and surefooted off-road handling. Not only does it absorb shocks from the most uneven roads, but it also reduces roll to a minimum and helps to inspire confidence on the sharpest of corners.

18.Adapterra 4x4

Aria is equipped with a selectable 4x4 which has a built in Adapterra torque on demand feature. Engineered for an instant response, this is the latest technology in 4X4 systems. It senses and distributes torque, in varying proportion to the wheels, in accordance with the terrain. Thus even if two wheels are on a slippery surface, the Adapterra reduces torque to these wheels, thereby preventing any wheel spin. The Adapterra also helps to maintain stability on winding roads.

19.Rack and Pinion Steering

The Rack & Pinion Steering in Aria is extremely precise and effortless to operate. This power steering delivers excellent high-speed stability and enhanced control thereby making it easy for you to manoeuvre on narrow winding roads.

Advanced and Exciting Features in New Tata Aria an upcoming MUV - The First Fully Equiped Indian Car. PART I

Tata Motors had launched the All New Tata Aria to meet the competition on market with Toyota Innova.
But Apart from having the similar Body of Innova the Tata Aria carries a lot of Advanced Features with it which is the first for most of the Indian Cars. Lets Have a look at those features.....

Safety & Security

1.ABS with EBD

During panic braking or while braking on slippery surfaces with normal brakes, the vehicle goes into a skid and the steering becomes unresponsive, thus resulting in an accident. The Aria is equipped with an Anti-Lock Braking System along with Electronic Brake Force Distribution. The ABS system prevents the brakes from locking. This ensures that the tyres retain traction and steering remains responsive, thus preventing accidents. ABS is effective even on slippery surfaces such as wet roads or ice. The Electronic Brake force distribution distributes the brake force as per the dynamic requirement sensed for each wheel while braking. This increases braking efficiency and shortens the braking distance.

2.ESP/TCS

One of the most important features in the Aria is the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Traction Control System. ESP is a computerized system that improves stability of a vehicle and prevents skidding / toppling in situations of loss of steering control. ESP intervenes only when it detects that the vehicle is not going in the direction where the driver is steering it. This may happen when the vehicle is skidding during emergency evasive swerves, under-steer or over-steer during poorly judged turns or on slippery roads. ESP estimates the direction of the skid and then applies brakes to individual wheels asymmetrically to prevent the skid and restore steering control. Traction control system functions in a similar manner and maintains stability in situations of sudden acceleration.

3.All Disc Brakes

The Aria is equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels for efficient and powerful braking. The dual pot calliper braking system ensures high braking force and shorter braking distance.

4.Rigid body construction & Crashworthiness

The rigid frame and robust construction is combined with an equally strong body shell. The shell also has a reinforced passenger cabin and several crumple zones built in which serve to absorb the energy of impact in the event of a collision. The in built design elements also ensure pedestrian safety.

5.Keyless Entry with immobilizer with perimetric Alarm System

In case of theft or bonnet/ door opening attempt, the in-built immobilizer with Perimetric Alarm System not only alerts but also cuts the fuel supply to the engine and will only start with the original key.

6.GPS Navigation system

The Tata Aria is one of very few vehicles which come with an in-dash Satellite Linked Navigation System and preloaded maps of most Indian cities. Apart from directions to your destination you can also search for the nearest restaurants, Banks, hospitals. And should the need arise the system will guide you to the nearest Tata Motors dealership.

7.Rain Sensing Auto Wipers and Darkness Sensing Auto Head Lights

The Aria goes to great lengths to minimize driver effort & intervention and conserve energy. Take the intelligent Rain Sensing Auto Wipers and Darkness Sensing Auto Head Lights for example. During rains the sensor on the dashboard automatically activates and operates the wipers with a suitable speed mode, depending on the intensity of the rain. Similarly, they also automatically sense low light and activate the headlights.

8.Glove box chiller

The Aria's glove box does away with the old perception of glove boxes as the hiding places for papers and sundry items. The Glove box in Aria is fitted with a chiller which keeps your beverages & chocolates cool. A light has also been provided in the glove box that is automatically switched on as soon as you open the glovebox.

9.Puddle Lamps (Foot step lamps)

To make sure you step down safely, every Aria is equipped with a puddle lamp at the bottom of each door. This lamp illuminates the ground below as you open the door in the dark, thus preventing you from accidently stepping into a puddle.

10.Follow me home approach lights

The Aria assists you in locating your way as well as locating the Car in the dark. Even when the Car is locked, the headlights can be put on from outside with the approach light switch on the remote key and it stays on for 60 seconds. This can help you in locating your way after parking in a dark spot. It can also help you locate the Car in a big parking lot at night.

Guys As It is Getting longer and longer i will say the remaining Features in the next part of this post.Don't Forget to Follow..............

Anti Lock Braking System ABS in Mazda

The ABS System

The theory behind anti-lock brakes is simple. A skidding wheel (where the tire contact patch is sliding relative to the road) has less traction than a non-skidding wheel. If you have been stuck on ice, you know that if your wheels are spinning you have no traction. This is because the contact patch is sliding relative to the ice (see Brakes: How Friction Works for more). By keeping the wheels from skidding while you slow down, anti-lock brakes benefit you in two ways: You'll stop faster, and you'll be able to steer while you stop.

There are four main components to an ABS system:
  • Speed sensors
  • Pump
  • Valves
  • Controller
Speed Sensors
The anti-lock braking system needs some way of knowing when a wheel is about to lock up. The speed sensors, which are located at each wheel, or in some cases in the differential, provide this information.
Valves
There is a valve in the brake line of each brake controlled by the ABS. On some systems, the valve has three positions:
  • In position one, the valve is open; pressure from the master cylinder is passed right through to the brake.
  • In position two, the valve blocks the line, isolating that brake from the master cylinder. This prevents the pressure from rising further should the driver push the brake pedal harder.
  • In position three, the valve releases some of the pressure from the brake.
    Pump
Since the valve is able to release pressure from the brakes, there has to be some way to put that pressure back. That is what the pump does; when a valve reduces the pressure in a line, the pump is there to get the pressure back up.
    Controller
The controller is a computer in the car. It watches the speed sensors and controls the valves.
    ABS at Work
There are many different variations and control algorithms for ABS systems. We will discuss how one of the simpler systems works.
The controller monitors the speed sensors at all times. It is looking for decelerations in the wheel that are out of the ordinary. Right before a wheel locks up, it will experience a rapid deceleration. If left unchecked, the wheel would stop much more quickly than any car could. It might take a car five seconds to stop from 60 mph (96.6 kph) under ideal conditions, but a wheel that locks up could stop spinning in less than a second.
The ABS controller knows that such a rapid deceleration is impossible, so it reduces the pressure to that brake until it sees an acceleration, then it increases the pressure until it sees the deceleration again. It can do this very quickly, before the tire can actually significantly change speed. The result is that the tire slows down at the same rate as the car, with the brakes keeping the tires very near the point at which they will start to lock up. This gives the system maximum braking power.
When the ABS system is in operation you will feel a pulsing in the brake pedal; this comes from the rapid opening and closing of the valves. Some ABS systems can cycle up to 15 times per second.

How Automatic Tyre Inflation System Works

How It Works

Airgo’s Automatic Tire Inflation System (ATIS) uses compressed air from the trailers reserve air tank system.  Our ATIS inflates any tire that falls below a preset pressure whenever the vehicle is in operation.  When a tire loses air pressure below the manufacturers recommended level, the ATIS automatically transfers air from the reserve tank to the ATIS Control Box unit. The Control Box controls the air flowing to each axle, Stator filter and Rotary Union depending on each tires air pressure needs. There will be one Rotary union installed per tire set and it will distribute the correct the amount of air to each tire.

Throughout the Trucking industry it is well known that the two biggest industry expenses are fuel and tires.  It is well documented in trade studies that tires are the second largest cost for the trucking industry.  Although tire cost is the second highest overall cost, it is the number one maintenance cost for trucking fleets.  Other trade studies have shown that tires account for over 50% of the en route breakdowns that fleets experience and for those tire related breakdowns 85% of them were due to improper or under inflation of tires.

In today’s economy it pays to implement changes that are cost beneficial to your company and changes that improve your "bottom line". Airgo's ATIS will provide a number of very positive benefits to your company, e.g., (1) freeing up maintenance or yard personnel for other tasks; (2) extend the natural life of your expensive trailer tires; (3) reduce road service calls for tire maintenance; (4) increase your fleet fuel efficiency: (5) reduce overall tire maintenance cost. Let us show you how Airgo's ATIS can do positive things for you.
